Tel-Tru are supposed to be the daddy of the dial type mechanical thermometers for BBQs if you're building your own, but to be honest I generally just use the thermometers on my BBQ and Smoker to see if it's in the range or not, I have a Maverick redi-check wireless one that monitors the real grill ...
