He is on hols for a few weeks. The guys are giving good advice. I have had a brinkman, a ProQ and now a WSM. All have their places, for home usage, the best value for money hands down is the ProQ. The WSM (Weber Smokey Mountain), is signficantly more expensive and on the face of it does not seem worth it until you get into competition cooking. Definately look at the ProQ as it will be at least 100 sheets cheaper than the WSM. However, there is a cracking deal from Garden & Leisure £250 for a new WSM http://www.gardenandleisure.com/products/weber_smokey_mountain_cooker_47cm_.html

Good luck...

Slap Yo Daddy definitely does use WSMs. He enters some of the comps here in Arizona and was last year's Arizona Team of the Year.

I put up a post last week with my thoughts on both cookers, here is the link. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1254

I would recomend the ProQ as long as you're using it with a clay saucer in the water pan instead of water. I belive it is much easier to cook on than a WSM.

My advice is make a call and get smoking.
It took me a couple of weeks of swaying between PorQ and WSM before I took the plunge. And believe me, I let it do my head in.
I had finally landed on the ProQ and can't remember what was posted, that shifted me back to the WSM on the day I ordered. It is on a post here somewhere. Think it may have been that someone had both and used the WSM only now. But my impression is there doesn't seem to be enough between them, to justify holding your smoking experience back.
As I said, I got the WSM and haven't looked back but could just as easily got the ProQ and wouldn't have looked back either.
Bit like waiting for that late taxi to arrive. It does your head in, while you prevaricate (did I really come up with a word like that  ) but once the call is made, the pain immediately disappears and the fun, fun, fun, begins.
Plenty on here to help you out, whichever you go for and the beauty is, neither is the wrong call.

Here's my thread but as I said, the ProQ could just as well be your baby.

and this may help too.

Well am done in now, WSM or Pro? Pro or WSM? WSM or WSM 47 or 57? I though you was suppose to be helpful and stop all my problems and confusion, guide the new boy lead him to pastures green (well Smokey) help this poor, delusional, perplexed, lost in the wilderness boy, with his predicament of what best to buy.
I give in am going to get a big oil drum hang my butt inside (well not mine but the pigs) and smoke it for 18hours with Hickory, stoked each hour with a fresh chunk of wood washed down with a nice Brandy! Well it may not be the best but am sure I won’t see the outcome with 18 brandies, but will give it a go. And by the way I have tried to smoke this way before and it worked to a fashion.
Any way I think I have decided which to go for. Am going for the  Just one question first why not the off sett type with the fire box on the side. Hope this does not start too much more of a debate.

Listen to Doc, he really makes it sound like he knows what he is talking about. That is because he obviously does know.

I have 2 offsets, in addition to my Excel 20. They really do take more attention than the ProQ. Plus, they eat more charcoal.
