Hiya All a Newbie here

Hiya Everyone.

Loving the Forums so decided to join :)

Basically i have been BBQ Grilling for years, but have started to get interested in smoking and indirect cooking.

I have a Weber one touch Premium BBQ

This weekend i am going to attempt cooking a Pork Crackling joint will this work ok on the BBQ?
I have contacted my butcher and ordered a Pork Butt for next time but i need to give a weeks notice, So will have to use what i have got for now.

I am going to give it a good dry rub and cook for about 5 hours does this seem ok? i will give it a spray of apple juicy every Hour.

Any Tips would be great.

Hi Karl,

Welcome to the forum, I would place a water pan underneath your joint on the coals grate to allow for some moisture and to help keep that baby clean. Also if you are looking at grilling, try adding a bit of extra smoke flavour with wood chips or chunks Apple or Cherry is good on Pork. Your local garden centre is likely to have some.

Thanks for the advice, forgot about the drip tray lol.

I think i am going to get some Chunks of wood and i right in thinking that its better not to soak the larger cuts of wood and just put a few pieces straight on the Coals?

I watched this Vid clip once and have never soaked wood chunks since:



It's your call but I don't think there is much of a need for soaking.

Most of the reading i have done suggest to just chuck it on dry so i will do that.

Hi Karl

The Weber One Touch is what I started out on, and it's a good all-rounder.

I am just about to lend mine to a friend to get him started, and to force me to use my smoker more.

You call yourself a friend knowing full well the consequences of getting your buddy hooked on this? From now on his waist size will double and his wallet size will shrink!

But we love it!

I hear fishing is an infinitely more expensive hobby than this though!

How else do you expect me to build a team? :lol:

There is also the advantage that he lives only about 40 minutes from Tongham. Regarding camping, I'm definitely with Lee.

Hiya all,


Thanks for the advice.

I cooked the pork joint yesterday applied a dry rub and basted with Coke as i had no apple juice lol.

Turned out pretty good for a first attempt.

Unfortunately i forgot to take any pictures but i will next time
