Yeah you are right and it was this advice that made me decide on the 47 over the 57. I guess it was only last weekend when I had a big cook that I realized the meat juggling required to cook 2 chickens, 4 racks of baby back ribs, 2 racks of spare ribs and 2 racks of beef ribs on one 47cm WSM. Ended up cooking the chickens on my back up kettle.

I think a kettle and a WSM is pretty much a great BBQ setup. You can turn out a tonne of food. I think you did the right thing with cooking the chickens on the kettle, I've never felt that chicken benefits from low and slow.

I've just bought a 57cm kettle to go with my pro Q, a dead cheapo one off ebay that should give me many minutes of use. Just to get the extra real estate when needed.

Yeah I am coming to the thinking that I like the chickens cooked nearer 300f than 225f and did these sitting on a beer can;

Agree on removing some of the 'interaction' by having the temp control, like you it's going to be to allow me sleep, and peace from the wife!
My thought on the IQ was that I can hang it under a table to keep it out of the rain with the power pack. I'm also worried about accidentally kicking to PartyQ off the WSM.
Looking forward to sparking it up tomorrow!
Matt

I saw that Toby is importing the IQ now so does make it a lot easier to get then when I was looking and anything that allows you to sleep and still produce good Q is a genius idea IMO.
FYI - Salisbury's at Winnersh seems to get some decent ribs in if Costco ever lets you down (and it means you don't have to drive to Reading).

I find the hose of the Ique more on an assett than a problem, I made up the plastic box as per youtube and have so far had no problems with foul weather. I made a smaller box than Eddie (Invicta) but will probably ypscale to a larger box so I can use it for storage as he does.

Assuming that is Sainsburys? Hadn't realised they did them to be fair; Waitrose has been my default & easy to get to store.
Had used McLeish on Rances Lane & he seems to be a decent enough chap.

Well, the downpour hasn't stopped me getting some ribs on - just glad I put the parasol up as it was pretty full on!
Took me a while to get the WSM up to temp, but think I didn't use enough coals for the minion method. Nasty dark clouds of smoke too when I put the wood on, so think I've creosoted my ribs & smoker! Took the lid off & door, got the fire burning efficiently & popped it all back, lesson learnt!
Now running at temp without any need for adjusting, really impressed vs the smokenator that had me up & down far more to adjust things. The only non relaxing bit is my ET73 while I wait for the 732 to be delivered as its signal seems to come & go.
Inside of the lid is now sticky & bitter, should I wash it all out tomorrow & start again or is this normal?
Cheers

What wood did you use?
