I heard that too, some redneck was supposed to pass the ball and he threw it forwards towards the opposition....the referee said it was legit and it stuck.....then all the players demanded fanny pads as shoulder protectors and the rest is history.

Canny point for the Toon.

A friend at the match thought that the toon would pay for shouting "you fat b******d" at Rooney after he went over the bar, but alas it was not to be.
