Just bought a Brinkmann 810-7080-7 Gourmet Electric Smoker and Grill from the US to use in the UK I have changed the US plug over to a UK 13Amp three pin plug and every time I plug it in the house main fuse keeps turning off. I have tried putting it through an extension lead and plugged straight into the socket but each time the house blow what am I doing wrong?

Does it run on both 240 and 110 or is it a 110 only?

May also be a 50/60Hz issue

Sadly I now find the reason being the US is 120V and UK 230V so I managed to melt the element putting nearer 3 times the amount through it. Unfortunately I now have a bit of a dilemma since Amazon say they will refund me for the Smoker if I ship back to US but I cant see any good quality electric smokers available for use in the UK that are under £200. The other option is get a UK heating company to make me a 230V 1500W element but I have no idea where to start or who would make such things since the eliment will need a power cable attached to it.

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner the notification thing didn’t work but think it's sorted out now?

Show us a picture of the element, there may be something out there as a replacement.

This is what it looks like:

I have e-mailed several heating eliment companys to see how much a custom made one would be.

You may be able to replace the element and use a step down converter. However as the unit is 110v only it may be 60Hz only too. In which case you're stuffed.

Is there any other control electronics on the unit? If so you might also need everything running on 110v rather than just putting a 240v element in there.

It's fairly basic just the element, lead and plug attached. I thought about getting another US one then getting a 1500W converter but there over £100 for a transformer plus another £40 for new US element so I’m hoping I can get a UK element made under £60 which should hopefully solve the problem.

maybe you should check with amazon iff they know about where to get an element?

Tried that they only sell the US version and since they didn’t point out it was US on the advert is why they want to give me a full refund for it but I like he smoker and it can still be used for cold smoking until I get the heating element sorted out.
