Firebox Build.

Post by Maximus616 »

Hi All,I am in the process of building a Hot Smoker/BBQ,its going to be a Reverse Flow Set up and the Firebox underslung, now I have had some very good advice from my friend in the States who suggests a square box 12 to 16 inches square with 12 being the minimum size, however having priced up the cost, and fainted,I was digging around in my workshed and found a Propane gas cylinder that is about the same size as the Firebox I need, now before you burn up your keypad I should mention it is empty and no gas is in the cylinder at all so I can cut it,I was thinking that it would be perfect and cheaper to use it as the firebox once I have cut it and put in the door and L guides for the mesh, anyway has anyone used a Gas cylinder for a Firebox or cut one for anything,I need some idea as to Steel thickness and anything to watch out for,I have had it checked and there is no trace of gas in it at all and the top is removed,or am I doomed to chop of an arm and a leg to get one made or D.I.M.Cheers All.Its well cold in Cornwall at the moment.

There shouldnt be any problems, I gave a friend my old brinkman smoke and pit, with a bit of messing around he added a gas cylinder firebox which seemed to work well.
