Where's the Beef?

Hey guys,

I'm new to the BBBQS, and from what I've seen, it looks like an awesome source of information for all things american barbecue, I've found that once you get the bug, there is no going back!!

Well my first question on this forum is, can anyone provide some advice of where to buy great beef brisket in the Warwickshire area or on-line?

I've tried a few local butchers with some good results but feel the brisket can be better and I think one of the key elements is the quality of the meat, how long it's been hung for and the fat content which so far, hasn't been ideal. There are a few places I've found on-line but always good to get a recomendation from a reliable source before trying.

Thanks in advance.

Ryan

One of the butchers i use is up that way, and they're one of my favourites for beef.

Check out Aubrey Allen in Lemmington Spar, i've used them for my competition briskets for a couple of years now and i seem to do quite well with them.

Yeah they're pretty awesome, do you just go into the shop and ask for a whole brisket or do you guys go to the wholesale place?? Is there a differnece you're aware of or is it just down to price?

What do you normally get for a comp, a whole packer or just the point?? And what weight do you normally go for?

Thanks

Ryan

They're the only butcher that i know of in the UK who grade beef and they also dry age which adds to the flavour. I buy from the wholesale side where i compete on a regular basis and i also cater they're happy to sell to me and i get a better price, but their shop stocks exactly the same meat, you might need to give them a day or two to order in the right cut.

I always order whole briskets from them, although they call them long briskets.

Thanks for the info, I'll try giving the wholesaler a call, failing that, I'll just order from the shop.

I guess different places have different names, long brisket works for me!!
