True, still it's nice to know that you can cater for a crowd if one turns up unexpectedly

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?
All the replies are great, thanks so much.
I am a total newb, so don't want to get in over my head.
I love the look of the EGG, i have been watching vids on YouTube, looks awesome. But...I can't really justify the cost.
I'm leaning towards a weber kettle at the moment. Fairly affordable and sounds quite versatile. Is that correct? I can indirect cook on that can't I?
I could maybe add to that with a bullet smoker if I really get the BBQ bug. Sound like a good plan?
Any thoughts on what weber kettle I should look at? I don't want to get too small and wish I'd gone bigger....
Thanks!

Go for a 57cm model. The premium model with the ash catcher is worth the extra £s IMHO. But the size is more important. It's far easier to do indirect on the 57cm than the 47cm

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?
Yes I was guessing that would be the one to go for.
Not worth considering the 67cm?
I was definitely looking at the premium model. Very tempted to look at the one with the built in table (performer?) but starting to get pricey.
However, I would need a chimney starter, plus a table or two, so maybe I could justify the price of the performer!

The 67cm is good (as is the performer, which is probably my go to kettle for every day grilling) but as you start going up the price range you rapidly hit the point where you could get a 57cm kettle and a 47cm bullet smoker - and I'm a firm believer that the more grills/smokers the better!

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?
I agree with Robin, the extra cost on the 67 is too much, the sweet spot is the 57 and it's a very flexible cooker. There's also the option to add a rotisserie on the 57 which can be useful. I'm not sure whether there is a rots sere kit for te 67.
You can definitely do some good indirect cooking on a kettle

Re: Newcomer help..bullet vs horizontal?
Thanks guys, I am definitely Going to go for a weber one touch 57!
For those of you in the UK.... I get 20% discount at John Lewis so I figure I will get it from there. They have two models... One touch gold at £160 and one touch master touch at £220.
The product details didn't really state what extra goodies the master touch had over the gold. Does anyone know?
So I would be paying £128 for the gold or £176 for the master touch. Nearly £50 difference.
I'm not a tight wad, I do like nice stuff, is it worth getting the more expensive one??
Thanks again!

It looks like a European model so not too sure. As long as it comes with the ash bucket and hinged grates and thermomemeter get the cheaper one and save the money for other more useful accessories and meat.

Looks like it just has the slide away lid holder? I have that on my platinum and i do like it.
