painting inside of BBQ

Hi
i have made my own BBQ out of a oil drum i've painted the outside now what should i do on the inside its a bit rusty i can brush it down but then what should i paint it i know bbq's ive had in the past have had paint on the inside which was fine please help the rust doesnt look v good.

Best thing to do is give it a light sanding using a scotch pad and then give it a covering with cooking oil and light a small fire in the bottom with the lid on to season it, with regular use the rust shouldn't return, whatever you do don't paint it.

do not paint it inside the above advice is the right way to go good bbqing

The "Paint" you see on most good quality BBQs is usually enamel which is heat bonded to the metal during manufacture. There are some heat resistant enamel paints you can buy that are designed for cookers but I dont think I would be tempted to try them in my BBQ. I would go with the above advice as well - Oil it and season it.
