Hello all,
I have recently had the jungle that was once my garden tidied and have wanted to buy a decent gas BBQ for some time now. I have a budget of around £200 and after a little research it seems the Outback 300 excel comes quite highly recommended but I was wondering if there are any BBQs around that price point I should also consider ?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean,
welcome to the forum...definitely the right place to be for any help and advice, I know through personal experience
In no way am I trying to change your direction in your BBQ/Grilling journey but have you considered a charcoal system?
I'm only asking this because I reverted back to charcoal this year and have had a lot of fun with the extra 'challenges' and versatility that this method can throw at you.
My budget was similar to yours and I purchased a Weber One Touch Premium 57cm and I absolutely love it
Like I said, my intention is not to change your mind but maybe offer up another avenue that you may not have already considered.
Good luck!!
John

Re: First gas BBQ advice
Majority of my cooking is done on charcoal but I've go a Weber Q200 that sees regular use when doing quick cooks for things like sausages/burgers. The Weber one touch mentioned above is a more flexible cooker though imho

Having done a bit of research today I am now thinking that the Outback Excel 300 might be a touch small, any views on the Outback Hunter ?

Bang on budget and seems like quite a lot of BBQ for the money with a 10 year warranty or am I missing something major ?

Sorry I can't help I saved for ages for an Outdoorchef Ascona and can grill to my hearts content (Not low n slow John just grill, and rotisserie
). You need to decide what you future holds, if you want to go down the smoking route then from what I've seen on TV and read get a grill with an odd number of burners allowing you a cool zone in the middle for indirect cooking, beer can chicken etc. Make sure your BBQ has a good lid with plenty of "headroom" for want of a better term.

Re: First gas BBQ advice
Hi there,
I have an outback hunter that has stood in my garden for 4 years now.
Good quality steel body and iron grates have held up very well and the frame construction is in good nick considering its age.
My only criticism is that I struggled to get a consistent temp across the cooking area, I dont recall this issue when I first had it so it may be down to my shabby maintainance. In short a cracking buy, I roasted smoked and grilled with it and it is still there for emergencies.....but......I am back in love with charcoal again and gas will no longer do.....but if you are thinking gas I think you are making a good choice.
I must also confess an anti Weber bias, except their chimney starter, which is made from witchcraft...another thread...
Life is for the grilling!
Cheers

Re: First gas BBQ advice
My dad seems to think I would be silly to buy anything but a Weber E301 and has even offered to buffer my budget to fund one. Is it worth the extra cash ?
