Maverick ET732 probes advice needed

Post by Pecker »

Just bought one of these.

On my Weber One Touch, how safe is it to put the braided cords between the bowl and the lid, if I'm careful? Will this break them?

If it will, then I need to get them into the kettle through the vents. Is it safe to put them through the lower vents, to stop them flying off every time I raise the lid?

I know some peopler have drilled extra holes, but I don't fancy this. Has anyone any other advice?

Many thanks.

Only and carefully cut a little slit in the top of the lower bowl.

Placing the probes under the lid won't damage them and personally i've never had a problem with additional air from the small gap that is left.

Remember you'll have loads of people using mavericks with the ceramic grills and the lids on them are a lot heavier than the lid on a weber kettle.

Cheers.

To be honest, when I took them out of the box, they looked pretty tough.

Do I need to bend them into place first, or is it better to just lay them flat and carefully lower the lid on, and let the lid bend them into the right shape?

Cheers.

Steve, just lay them across and let the weight of the lid bend them into shape, that way there will be less stress on the cable, plus if you deliberately bend them, you'll have to try to find the place you bent them to avoid excessive damage. As you rightly say they are tough little "items". There is a picture of slits cut into the lower rim somewhere but I can't find it. There are probably vids on youfacepagetwitplacebooktube somewhere as well :D

Of course some of us don't have that trouble with the Excel ;)

I put my meat probe through the lid vent. Makes it a bit awkward when lifting the lid but not that bad.

Tried it yetsterday in the Weber (between bowl and lid) and in the kitchen oven.

No problems.

Many thanks for the tips.
