Trading Up

Post by Saucy Pig »

Hey All

Bit of advice needed. At the minute I'm running a GMG Daniel Boone. I'm looking for something with a little more volume. Has anyone got any experience with shipping smokers in from the states?

Looking at something like the FEC100. Guessing I've been spoiled by having a pellet grill that I really don't want to go back to fire watching. Anyone shipped in similar models?

Cheers

Getting an FEC you'll have to go through nick at American BBQ as they're the Cookshack dealer for the UK

I've signed up a deal with Backwoods smokers which i'm importing from the US which if you go for one with gas or just use with a BBQ Guru or stoker will allow you to set an forget and £ to cooking space they're much cheaper than the FEC's, i think the FEC120 which Grillstock bought cost them £4.5-£5k

Did you realise that the GMG Jim Bowie is already available in the UK? This is the same design and manufacture as your Daniel Boone, but about 50% bigger again. It is also available from American BBQ Limited.

If you're looking for a big pellet smoker you're choices are a bit limited. I managed to have a good look around at the new Yoder YS1320 pellet smoker at the american royal last year and it looked a great bit of kit and decent size if you ever wanted to cater with it.

That Yoder looks a nice bit of kit.
I'm guessing once you've paid for shipping then the extra the tax man will no doubt take coming through customs, it'd be just as cheap to get a FEC100 from american BBQ. I'm leaning towards getting the GMG Jim Bowie and just running them side by side.
Cheers for the info tho.
