A short while ago, I bought a welding blanket (actually 2 small welding blankets, each 1m x 2m).
I've used them a couple of times, and in this cold weather found they did make a difference.
However, my last cook, at the weekend, I was wearing black, and when I came inside and sat down, I could see my t-shirt was sparkling. Seems the welding blankets are shedding not an inconsiderable amount of fine glass fibres.
Now, if it can get all over my tshirt and trousers, surely it can get all over the food. I'm not too happy with the idea, so I'm wondering what advice can you give me. I bought a welding blanket, as people advised - was there a particular type I should have gone for, with the fibres sealed away? Or am I worrying about nothing?

To be honest I have never used insulation on the cookers, but I know Harry Soo uses rockwool hotwater tank jackets.

Re: Welding Blanket
Anyone got a link to a suitable hot water tank jacket?
I had a look in B&Q, Homebase etc and didn't see anything suitable. I'm really looking for something to put over the Traeger during overnight cooks as I can shelter my excel quite well but the Treager is exposed to the wind.

Re: Welding Blanket
This thread is old but relevant as the subject has been aired again.
Does anyone know of a make or type of welding/fire/insulation blanket that doesn't release glass fibres (preferably not made from that material) that could be used to insulate a BBQ ?
It would probably be overkill for me but you never know, be prepared.

Yep, I very quickly gave those blankets away to a builder friend of mine. Eventually I bought a GMG thermal cover, as detailed over on the other thread.
