Charcoal basket & convection plate source in UK?

Post by Hausnfranz »

Howdy,

I recently bought an economical offset drum smoker with the intent of making modifications to it. I was able to purchase gaskets and silicone online, but I was wondering if there is anywhere to source a charcoal basket and steel for a convection plate? I live in N1 London, and am not sure Homebase or the likes will have steel or where I should get steel laser cut or welded?

Edit for a bit more detail: I'd prefer options that don't require purchasing a lot of tools, and I don't really have access to a machine shop. So I guess the next option is to find somewhere that laser cuts? Having a welding shop prefab a box seems a bit expensive, any UK business make them?

Cheers,

Nick

A lot of people make them from expanded metal, the trouble is getting hold of it without having to buy a huge sheet. If you can handle the excess (around £40 for a 8'x4' sheet) it is rather handy stuff, and can be bent to shape and bolted together with ease.

Thanks. Does anyone know of a source to have a charcoal box fabricated in London, or UK via shipping?

You could buy a replacement one for an existing BBQ like the Pro-Q or a weber smokey mountain.
