Usually i wait until the next cook, get it up to temp and give the grates a good rub down with a wire brush, that usually gets rid of any baked on crud very easily. When I first got my wsm I would take the grates off and wash them in the sink every time, but a wire brush makes cleaning the grates a 20 second job.

I usually get the grills as close as possible to the coals after the food had come off, then use a triangular wire brush to get the carbonised crud off, and then finish them in the dishwasher.

Watch out for those wire brushes, there's a good number of horror stories about people ingesting stray wires left on the grates and ending up with a perforated stomach/intestine. I just scrub the grates in hot soapy water with a ball of foil

I rest the grill over the starter when and then use a good wire brush to clean it off once it had baked solid.

Chaps,
Dishwasher sounds a touch OCD for me, get them hot and carbonised and scrub with either wire brush or foil ball......cheers

Personally I don't go to this extreme, I just burn it off at the beginning of the next cook and go over with a BGE grill brush. You could use this with some Lakeland oven cleaner if you want

Planet Barbecue do stock them but are currently out of stock
