it was mentioned in another thread about Intellectual property, thought I would start it over here with the link to the government web site http://www.ipo.gov.uk/ its always worth pursuing if you think you have value in a brand name although the world is full of grey areas.
If you google "Search European Trademarks" there are a few sites with the free searches always worth checking there too.
