Keen griller Kent

Post by Davy »

Hi all I'm based in Kent and have been experimenting on my Weber kettle for years in all weathers. Would love to step up my game and get together with some fellow grillers and perhaps start doing some comps.

Davy, good to have you along, the first competition is in May. I suggest popping along to see a comp in action, this way you will be able to meet some of the regulars and get to know whats expected.

Welcome. Plenty of chances to meet like minded folks, 2 events in June one is Grillstock in Bristol the other is an IBQN event in Essex. Glad to see you meet our needs with cooking in all weathers, no such thing as bad weather for BBQ.

Welcome on board, good to have you here.

I'd echo what Cuan has said, if you're interested in competing, pop along to an event. There's also the IBQN partial entry option where you can also get your gear provided too. Can't speak for other events but the competitors on the IBQN circuit are all very open and helpful, so there's a good opportunity to learn a lot in a very short time.

There is a comp at The Big BBQ Festival in Canvey Island in June, might be the closest one to you.

I can speak regarding Grillstock and can 100% confirm that all of the folks there are great and enjoy helping those new to competing a helping hand, entrance fees are very reasonable and include meat for the main categories and can also help out with loan equipment compliments of Weber if required, get in early though as places get booked up very quickly owing to its popularity.

I can't comment regarding bbbqs events but somebody like Eddie can as he has been to both.

Here's the forum thread with details on partial entry in case you're interested.

If entering a competition isn't something you reckon you're ready for or just want to have a look round. I'd suggest just popping along to an event for a look round and maybe a tasting session if you time it right .

If you decide to pop into an IBQN event feel free to stop by my pitch and I'm happy to chat to you about anything. If you head over to Bristol then I'd recommend visting the guys from BBQ Shack, Bunch of Swines and BBQ Fanatics. All of the above are enthusiastic and knowledgable chaps who've been actively competing several times per year both here and abroad.

I warn you in advance though, once you take that step and send in your first entry form it's very hard to walk away from. I think competition Q is like the hobby equivalent of crack ;)

Welcome on board. I am new to the competition side as well and hoping to get a team together this year for next. I am going to go and see how it is all done in May and then who knows maybe next year we might meet in comp. :D

Thanks for all the positive responses. I will def pop along to some comps this year to see how it's done and hopefully I'll get to say hi to some of you folk. After that I'll look out for a couple of classes which I've seen mentioned on here.

Yes it's true there is no such thing as bad weather for q.

Well what do I like to grill, to be honest anything and everything. I got lots of books and love to experiment. I've done some smoking on the weber also. I'm really into spicy food and have been doing a lot of jerk chicken and peri peri lately.
