Brisket over 1kg ?

recently had a look around the supermarkets and all the brisket they had was 1kg or under, do none of them stock 2-3kg joints or do you have to go to a butcher for it ?

I know they sell rolled brisket on the meat counters. And any good butcher should have it,best to ask if they have it un-rolled out back like mine stocks.

You have to bear in mind the average family doesn't want a much bigger joint than that. So look for a supermarket that has an in-store butchers counter if you haven't got a local one.

What does a standard brisket that a butcher buys look like? In the US it is a 'packer' cut, but what about the UK?

Seems to be mostly flat with maybe a little bit of point if you're lucky. There's meat processors you can buy from, where you'll get a more american cut. Such as ABP in Shrewsbury.
Try your local abattoir for larger briskets. They might still be rolled but getting 7kg briskets should be easy enough.

Make friends with a good local butcher. If I give him notice, mine can get me pretty much anything I want.
